Roo is an app we created based on a child development website, Baby Steps. Baby Steps is a research project meant to also be used as a tool for parents to track, monitor, and encourage their child's growth, from ages 0 to 5. On top of the data collected for child growth research, the website is also a sort of digital scrapbook for parents to cherish their child's memories. The goal of this project was to create an app version of the website, which currently does not have an app, and to redesign its UX and UI.
Welcome to Roo!
A fun onboarding that can be used by both a new user creating a new child profile or a new user trying to follow an existing child profile.
An integrated timeline.
Roo's timeline is integrated with the child's important information, fun reminders to update milestone questions, and a mix of activity and memory posts.
A reason to celebrate.
Roo celebrates even the smallest milestone with you with delightful animations.
Because multiple users can follow the same child, we wanted a feature that would allow each user to customize their own experiences with the child. Bookmarking different memories with different carers is a way for each user to have sentimental personalization.
An informative progress page.
With integrated milestones and activities, the progress page does not simply give you vague data without context. It informs users on areas needed for improvement as well as how they can use the app to help improve skills.
Relevant health tips.
Roo's tips changes daily and pulls from relevant topics pertaining to the child. This can include age-specific health tips or ongoing current events, such as the flu season.
